Bio for Barbara Marek, Special Crimes Investigator (Ret)

Barbara Marek has been a Licensed Peace Officer in the state of Texas since 1985. She is a Special Victims Unit Criminal Investigator and holds a Master Peace Officer License. She has specialized in the investigation of child sexual abuse cases since 1989.

She is also a Certified Instructor for TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) and has taught Law Enforcement Officers for the surrounding counties at Victoria College in Victoria, TX.

In 1998 she was selected by the State of Texas to co-train Social Workers working for Child Protective Services.

Barbara served as Chairperson of the Jackson County Community Resource Coordination Group (CRCG) from 1997 until 1999 and was a member of the County's Community Safety Plan Committee.

In 2003, Barbara became an Advanced SAFVIC Instructor (Sexual Assault/Family Violence Investigator Course) through the state of Texas providing training to Law Enforcement Officers throughout the state of Texas.

Barbara was featured in the 1998 July issue of "Texas Woman" magazine, profiled as "Championing Children's Rights".

In 1999 she started her own training company. She wrote a training program to teach others how to recognize, respond and report child sexual abuse in an effort to intervene early, protect, and prevent.

Her goal is to help prevent child sexual abuse through education and awareness.

Barbara turned in her badge in 2024 due to a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. She was not able to officially retire since she was not paid a full-time salary for the work she did for the past 32 years working investigations. Barbara volunteered to work cases for volunteer pay. She continues to present her program throughout mostly Texas and the United States.
